Gottman Method Therapy

Are you looking to improve your marriage and want research behind the method that is used? We recommend you try Gottman Couple Therapy!

Gottman Method Couples Therapy is an approach to relationship therapy that is based on over 40 years of research. Founded by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, world renowned relationship therapists and researchers, it is evidence-based to help partners better manage conflict, replace negative patterns, and increase intimacy.
The Gottman Method can be used with partners across various demographics. Outcome studies have shown that this therapy is effective for heterosexual partners as well as queer relationships.

  • Step 1: Schedule a conjoint session or consultation with one of our therapists to learn more about this method and if it’s right for your relationships
  • Step 2: Take the Gottman Relationship Check Up Assessment
  • Step 3: Each partner meet with the therapist individually so the therapist can learn more about each partner’s history and gain a sense of their needs and goals for therapy
  • Step 4: Meet with your therapist together for a feedback session

More About the Gottman Relationship Check Up Assessment

Developed and refined with over 40 years of research and data from more than 150,000 couples, this relationship assessment tool focuses on the key conditions and behaviors that lead relationships to succeed or fail.
The Gottman Relationship Check Up Assessment consists of 337 questions about friendship, intimacy, emotions, conflict, values, and trust. It includes questions about parenting, housework, finances, and individual areas of concern. Each partner completes the online questionnaire independently and your therapist receives the results and goes over it with you in the feedback session

More About the Gottman Method Feedback Session

During the feedback session, your therapist will review assessment results with you and your partner. There will be a discussion of the areas of strength in your relationship, as well as the areas that need some attention or fine tuning in therapy. (Our couples love hearing not just their growth areas but also their strengths to build on!)
Combining the assessment results, individual interviews, and joint interview, your therapist will share their treatment plan so that you have a clear idea of what you will be working on in therapy.

What else will be a part of the couples therapy session?

Homework is often assigned between sessions, which is negotiated between the therapist and the partners. Homework may involve reading a book, trying out a communication exercise, or practicing a skill learned in therapy.

Some of the things you can expect to learn from sessions using the Gottman Method include:
